My cake journey began with a single cake — for my daughter's first birthday. It didn't quite go as planned. I didn't know much about fondants back then, and the result was far from the picture in my head. But I refused to give up.

I kept researching. I kept practising. I learned different baking and decorating techniques, made more mistakes, and slowly began to get better. For years, I baked only for family and a few close friends — quietly building skill, one cake at a time.

Then one day, those words landed in my heart. I looked at my hands and realised the gift I'd been given. I had baking skills — and a calling to share them. That's how FissyCakes was born.

As a youth and young adult mentor in the UK, I wanted a meaningful way to celebrate our young people turning 18. So I decided to bake each of them a cake — a small but heartfelt gift that they all looked forward to. Year after year, I gave those cakes away freely, as a labour of love.

Years later, many of those same young people started getting engaged, getting married, and building lives of their own. And they came back. They came to me for their wedding cakes, their engagement cakes, their proposal cakes. It was a full-circle moment I never could have imagined — and it filled my heart in a way no business ever could.

Today, FissyCakes is more than a side hustle. It's a blessing. Through it, I've been able to teach other families how to bake on a one-on-one basis, passing on the joy that began with one little birthday cake all those years ago.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
